Drinking water is one of the most important facilities to have in schools. Students are mainly dependent on the water they bring from their homes. Many schools do have water tanks but those are either not operational or not clean. The school authorities should take steps to put water filters at the campus, take care of their timely maintenance While it may not be possible to have water connection at every school, it can be taken care of by installing portable water filters.
For the facilities, authorities should inculcate water saving solutions like rainwater harvesting as Pune receives good rainfall. The harvested water can be treated and stored in tanks for various purposes to be used in schools. This could also save water.
Identify potential water contamination sources
We need development of an understanding of the specific system and its capability to supply water that meets water quality targets. Identification of potential sources of contamination and how they can be controlled is key. As are validation of control measures employed to control hazards and implementation of a system for operational monitoring of the control measures within the water system. Timely corrective actions should be in place to ensure that safe water is constantly supplied. We need a system tthat comprises assessment, effective operational monitoring, management and communication.
Pune administration lacks in regular monitoring of water bodies in rural Pune and contaminated water is supplied in schools . Regular samples from school must be collected and it should be sent to labs for testing. Every month the water storage tank must be cleaned twice.
Water is one of the most basic necessity. There can be no compromise on the quality of water needed. It needs to be clean. Providing access to clean water is the responsibility of the govt and the local authorities.
It was extremely sad to see that Pune, known as the education hub, doesn’t have the access to clean drinking water at its rural schools and anganwadis. If we can have a metro then providing clean water is a minuscule job. To change this, authorities need to change their mindset first. If we can have such access in urban and private schools then why not in rural areas.
I think corporation should form a separate committee which will only look for providing clean water in schools. They will provide the infrastructure and the required funds to create this. They will audit the schools from time to time to check if they are at fault.

No ‘hello’, only 'Vande Mataram' for calls, Maharashtra officials told: Report
“We are entering the 76th year of Independence. We are celebrating Amrit Mahotsav (of Independence). Hence, I want officials to say 'Vande Mataram' over the phone instead of hellonewly-appointed Maharashtra cultural affairs minister Sudhir Mungantiwarwar announced, news agency PTI reported. He said a formal government order on the same will be out by August 18. The minister made the announcement in one of his first decisions, shortly after chief minister Eknath Shinde handed out portfolios in the state cabinet.
HP cabinet gives nod for setting up 76 model wellness centres
Himachal Pradesh cabinet has given the nod for setting up 76 model health wellness centres. The state cabinet met on Saturday evening wherein it decided to open patwar circle Spilo in Pooh tehsil of Kinnaur district to facilitate the people of the area. It also decided to create patwar circle Shikroha under Sadar Bilaspur tehsil. It gave its approval to create Kanungo circle Kelodhar under Chachiot tehsil of Mandi district.
HP apple growers dissatisfied with opening prices announced by Adani
Sanyukt Kisan Manch, an umbrella organisation of different farmers' unions, have rejected the prices announced by Adani Agri Fresh – a company that imports fruit. Sourced from farmers in Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir. The fruit supply chains in Himachal have announced a marginal increase in the opening price for A-grade premium apples for Rs 76 per kilogram against Rs 72 it offered last year.
Gunfight breaks out with terrorists in Rajouri
A gunfight erupted between militants and security forces in Kandra Hill area of Rajouri, officials said on Sunday. Defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said, “Today, around 7.30pm, an operational contact was established by troops of Indian Army, Rashtriya Rifles and SOG with terrorists at Kandra Hill in Rajouri.” A senior police officer said that a team of police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Kandra Hill on a specific input.
Kashmir’s first multiplex set to open early next monthin Sonawar
Come September and film aficionados in Kashmir will be able to watch the latest movies on the big screen as the Valley's first multiplex is set to open in the Sonawar area here. The multiplex, being developed in collaboration with leading theatre chain INOX, will have three movie halls with a total capacity of 520 seats, its owner Vijay Dhar told PTI. It will house several food courts, where Dhar plans to promote local cuisine.
