Weld County oil spills for April 19 – Greeley Tribune

The following spills were reported to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in the past two weeks.

Information is based on Form 19, which operators must fill out detailing the leakage/spill events. Any spill release that may impact waters of the state must be reported as soon as practical. Spills and leaks typically are found during routine maintenance on existing wells, though some actual “spills” do occur among the 18,000-plus wells in the county.

» GREAT WESTERN OPERATING COMPANY LLC reported April 14 a historical tank battery spill near Weld County Roads 104 and 21, about 9 miles southwest of Nunn. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. During facility closure, potentially impacted soil was found underneath the aboveground produced water storage tank. Surface water and groundwater faced no impacts. Cleanup is ongoing.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported April 14 a historical well spill near Weld 127 and 110, about 10 miles north of New Raymer. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned wellhead. Multiple soil samples exceeded COGCC standards.

» EXTRACTION OIL & GAS INC reported April 13 a recent tank battery spill near U.S. 34 and Fern Avenue, about 4 miles southeast of Greeley. Less than one barrel of produced water spilled. During the investigation, maintenance teams found a failure in the secondary containment linear. Cleanup is ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported April 12 a historical well spill near Weld 12 and Colorado Boulevard, about 8 miles south of Dacono. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found during plugging and abandonment at the wellhead. The volume of the release is unknown and assessment is ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported April 12 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 21 and 19 1/2, about 6 miles northwest of Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. During tank removal, impacted soil was found near the above-ground storage tanks. The volume of the release is unknown and assessment is ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported April 12 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 50 and 17, about 3 miles north of Johnstown. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. During tank removal, impacted soil was found near the produced water vessel. The volume of the release is unknown and assessment is ongoing.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported April 12 a historical flowline spill near Weld 62 and 59, about 3 miles southeast of Gill. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned flowline. Two soil samples exceeded COGCC protection of groundwater standards for naphthalene.

» EXTRACTION OIL & GAS INC reported April 12 a recent tank battery spill near Weld 62 and 15 in Windsor. An unknown amount of produced water spilled. During routine pressure testing on the waterline, the pipeline did not stabilize. The pipeline has been shut off during the investigation into the volume of the release.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported April 12 a historical well spill near Cherry Avenue and East 8th Street in Greeley. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned wellhead. Three soil samples exceeded COGCC protection of groundwater standards.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported April 12 a historical well spill near Colo. 71 and 14, about 6 miles north of North Raymer. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned wellhead. One soil sample exceeded COGCC standards for total petroleum hydrocarbons.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported April 11 a historical well spill near Weld 43 and 32, about 15 miles east of Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled.  Historically impacted soil was found following cut and cap at the wellhead. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported April 7 a historical well spill near Weld 38 and 25, about 4 miles north of Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found following cut and cap at the wellhead. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported April 7 a recent flowline spill near Weld 68 and 79 1/2, about 15 miles east of Gill. Between 5 and 100 barrels of produced water and oil spilled. The operator found the release of 25 barrels of produced water and oil from below the ground connected to the separators. The line carried the mixed fluid to the midstream line for transport off-site. Hydro-excavation is ongoing.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported April 7 a historical well spill near Weld 64 and 51 in Gill. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned wellhead. One soil sample exceeded COGCC protection of groundwater standards for 1-methylnaphthalene.
