NEW BRITAIN – The New Britain Water Department will be flushing water mains Thursday from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.

“Discolored water due to flashing of water mains may occur in the Central area of the City of New Britain, specifically within two blocks of the following streets: West Main Street from Corbin Ave. to Main Street, Myrtle Street, Broad Street, Concord Street Armistice Street, Cleveland Street, Gold Street, Curtis Street, Newfield Street, Booth Street, Washington Street, Main Street, Beaver Street and Sexton Street,” said Christopher Polkowki, superintendent of Water & Sewer.

According to Polkowki, there will be some temporary discoloration and reduced pressure during this time.

“Should you experience rusty water, it may get into your hot water storage tank. If it does, after the water returns to normal, clean the settled material by drawing off the water from the faucet at the bottom of the tank,” Polkowki said. “Should you have a load washed stained or muddied by this disturbance, keep the clothes wet, and after the water returns to normal, wash the load with your regular soap, and four ounces of cream of tartar. This should clean the wash satisfactorily.”
